Tourism is the benefit from the 2010 FIFA World Cup
Dec 31st, 2008 | By admin | Category: Africa's time has comeTourism is the sector that will probably benefit moth from the 2010 FIFA World Cup. South Africa will have an estimate 400000 visitors who will need to be accommodated, transported and entertained while in the country; and 2010 presents an opportunity like never before to showcase South African nation - approximately 20 billion cumulative viewers will watch the World Cup in South Africa.
The World Cup in South Africa will be unique. For the first time in history, FIFA will be contracting non-hotel accommodation, such as national parks, bed and breakfast, lodges and guest houses.
FIFA understands that for South Africa the hosting of the tournament is about more than four weeks of soccer, it is about people’s livelihoods. By including non-hotel accommodation, benefits of the tournament will be spread way beyond the cities where matches are taking place.
Important to know that all participating establishments will have to obtain a grading rating from the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) in order to be contracted by MATCH - the FIFA-mandated company responsible for accommodation, ticketing and information technology for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
As such, spectators will enjoy a much wider range of accommodation options. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to live among South African people and enjoy a truly African experience.

This is very exciting news. I’m happy for the South Africans who will benefit & for the various opportunities that attendees will have. Sounds like it will provide much more than the standard world cup experience. I’m sure that opening it up to other types of accommodations will make more people more likely to go due to the various ranges of pricing.
Interesting post & something I had not though of!
As I am not much of a soccer fan - I would be interested in doing a house swop over this time - I stay in Durban - 3km from the stadium - and my family and I would love to see other parts of the world - Spain or Italy perhaps? Would anyone be interested?
Tourism indeed will be affected by the World Cup event. Get ready to be flooded by Tourists! hehe
Nice post.. keep ‘em coming!!!
Yes, and I believe that SA will be ready for the flood of the tourists. As I told in other post, SA government invests a lot of money to provide high level security for tourists. So don’t worry be happy to come in SA!
